Acer turns to Linux

As with other makers of computers, Acer are turning to Linux as an alternative to Windows based operating systems, they have been promoting Linux in their low cost range, but they are now going to push this out on the Acer range of laptops too.

The brand of Linux that they are planning to use has some significant benefits to the user, as it is supposed to boot up in seconds rather than minutes, and the open source software actually can help the battery last thirty per cent longer.

There is also the matter of cost, it is estimated that a typical Microsoft operating system will cost around £50 per computer, this is not a lot on machines that are over £600, but on cheaper machines of £199 it’s a high percentage of the overall cost.
