Intel cuts price by half

The price of chips is falling; in fact they have been cut by almost fifty per cent by chip maker Intel. Obviously not all of their chips have been cut; this just applies to certain types. But anyhow the price is good because it may show that the process or materials are getting cheaper, or that they just cannot sell the ones that they have cut.

The price of the Core 2 Quad Q6700 (2.66 Ghz) dropped the full fifty per cent from £265 to £133 and the Quad Core Xeon X3230 (2.66 Ghz) fell by the same amounts from £265 to £133.

There are other price cuts which affect the Celeron, Duel Core Celeron, Dual Core Xeon, Intel Core 2 Duo, Pentium Duel Core and the new Core 2 Duo chips.

It could be said that there has been some competition recently from other chip manufacturers, but companies have different reasons for cutting prices, so we should not read too much into it.
